EGIL - Expert Group on Information Law

Expert Group on Information Law · E-LENDING

Aims and goals

The mission of the Expert Group on Information Law (EGIL) is to:

  • Create awareness on legal issues (with related implications) that affect the provision and circulation of information when libraries and archives are concerned;
  • Advise and assist the EBLIDA EC, national library associations and EBLIDA Members in addressing European institutions by making suggestions and drafting reports regarding laws and changes to laws or policies that would improve the legal position of libraries and archives;
  • Cooperate and work with other organizations and institutions for these purposes.

Since EGIL activities impact on library policy and planning, EGIL will meet ELSIA and LIBLEG experts regularly in order to bring in-field experience to the work undertaken by the two other groups and, vice versa, to get direction on issues which may have an impact on library legislation, policy and other information laws. The three groups should routinely make their minutes and any relevant papers available to each other so they are aware of decisions taken and of further action to be made.
