Project description

The empow(H)er Project is a dynamic initiative aimed at empowering middle-aged women, particularly those balancing the responsibilities of motherhood and caring for aging parents, by fostering digital literacy and increasing awareness of the digital world. Recognizing the historical underrepresentation of this group in technology and the caregiving roles they often shoulder without recognition, this project seeks to bridge the digital divide and elevate the status of these women in their communities.

The project brings together a consortium of public libraries from across Europe, each contributing unique expertise and resources. Through a collaborative effort, the libraries will implement a multifaceted approach:

Peer-to-Peer Learning: Libraries will host interactive workshops, encouraging middle-aged women to share their knowledge and learn from each other’s experiences. This peer-to-peer learning approach enhances engagement and builds a supportive community.

Digital Literacy Workshops: Customized workshops on digital skills, including discerning between credible and fake online information, will equip participants with the tools needed to navigate the digital landscape effectively.

Participatory Events: Engaging events will provide women with opportunities to actively explore and discuss digital literacy and its applications in caregiving and beyond.

Transnational Exchange: Librarians from partner libraries will engage in a knowledge-sharing exchange, promoting the sharing of best practices and innovative engagement strategies.

The project places a strong emphasis on ethical and safety considerations to ensure the well-being of participants. Data privacy, gender equality, and non-discrimination are woven into every aspect of the project, ensuring that it respects EU values and fundamental rights. Child protection policies, aligned with EU standards, are implemented where relevant.

The project’s comprehensive approach aims at leaving a lasting impact. It seeks to empower middle-aged women with digital skills that can enhance their caregiving roles, foster gender equality, and boost their participation in digital society. A robust monitoring and evaluation system, alongside active dissemination

The project aligns with European Union’s objectives of promoting digital inclusion and gender equality. Beyond the funding period, sustainability will be ensured by integrating project outcomes into ongoing library services and seeking synergies with other EU-funded activities.

The empow(H)er Project is poised to make a significant contribution to the digital empowerment of middle-aged women, recognizing their invaluable contributions to society and equipping them with the skills and awareness needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
